Recipes

Integrating simple whole foods into our daily lives can have a powerful impact on our overall health and wellness. Therefore, my recipes primarily use whole foods, are family-friendly, and use ingredients you can get at your local grocery store.
My approach is to never label foods as “good” or “bad”. There is no one perfect diet. To respect the diversity of diets, you will find swaps and options within many of the recipes. In my recipe index, you will find choices to meet the needs of many lifestyles such as gluten-free, plant-based, raw, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, and natural sugar-free options for inclusive recipes to respect the diversity of each person’s food story.
You will find simple & delicious recipes organized by category below or you can search recipes by ingredients or diet preferences (i.e. gluten-free) using the search bar for ease.

Lemon Lavender Pound Cake (Gluten-free, Sugar-free & Dairy-free versions)

Whenever I see lemon lavender lemonade, cookies, or ice cream I cannot pass by, I have to buy some. The sweet citrus of the lemons paired with the earthy, floral undertones of mint in lavender  is one of the most perfectly paired culinary flavour duos in my opinion. It also makes this naturally gluten-free cake a light and refreshing dessert at the end of your summer meal or a delightful accompaniment to an afternoon ice tea with friends. The pound cake can also be made ahead of time and it freezes well. This means that if you have unexpected guests or are invited to a potluck you can take one out to thaw and decorate as desired. You can also make this cake Keto or sugar-free friendly but using an alternative sweetener and it can be dairy-free with coconut yogurt. These simple variations allows the cake to adapt to a variety of dietary needs.

Coffee-Rubbed Jalapeno Bison Burgers

Burgers? Yes Please. Coffee? Always. Have you ever enjoyed a coffee rubbed burger? If not, you are in for a real treat. When I was in Hawaii, we hit up a burger place that had Kona Coffee rubbed burgers. It was amazing. The type of coffee you select can give the meat a distinctive aromatic taste and add acidity, bold aroma, bitterness, and sweetness to the meat. A dark nutty roast or a sweet espresso powder can completely change the taste of the meat. I like to pair the coffee rub with Bison. I find Buffalo has a lighter flavour, tastes slightly sweet and is deliciously tender. Buffalo meat is naturally lower in fat, calories and cholesterol than traditional beef. Plus, unlike conventionally raised beef, bison are typically grass-fed. Shake things up next time on the grill and try these burger patties.

10 Keto Friendly Must Have Condiment Recipes

Now, as the weather is getting nicer and patio season is upon us my clients want to know “What can I drink on Keto?”. The reality of going camping, enjoying your lake vacation, or hanging out with friends and not having an ice-cold drink can feel a lot like “diet restrictions”. What we know about restricting ourselves and saying “oh I can’t enjoy that I am on a diet”… is it’s very damaging emotionally, can make you feel defeated if you do not follow strict guidelines, and can increase binge eating. By taking a balanced approach we want to live our lives while aligning with our health goals in a seamless way.  Now, I am most definitely not saying that alcohol is apart of a healthy diet,  but what I am saying, is that for those that want to not feel restricted, not stress about what to drink at the BBQ while aligning with your low-sugar and/or low-carb lifestyle then there are ways to do both.

Perfect Paleo Chocolate Sauce (GF, V, Keto)

Beautiful Banana Splits. Chocolate Drizzle on a mountain of whipped cream.  Dipping fresh fruit into warm chocolate sauce. A decorative topping to your cakes and pastries.  These are a few ways I like to use a chocolate sauce to elevate your dessert when you are wanting to serve something special or just because you want to indulge a little. It is amazing how excited everyone gets when you add a bowl of warm chocolate sauce with a platter of fresh strawberries at your patio party than simply serving the strawberries alone. It takes it from a plate of fruit to a fun and delicious dessert.
