Vegan Kombucha Probiotic Gummies

Over the course of my nutritional studies, I learned the value of probiotics and the benefits it can have on our overall health and wellbeing. I did further research in this area and began to explore the world or prebiotics and probiotics for the sake of my family’s health. If you are interested in learning more, check out my post on How Probiotics can Enhance your health. In the research of probiotics, I also came across Kombucha and the wide array of thoughts and controversies around its potential health benefits and cautions. Check out my article on Is Kombucha Good for You? to learn more.

So what does all this information mean and where am I going with this? Good questions. Its clear that probiotics have potential benefits to our digestive system. It is also clear that poor digestion can lead to nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, and gastrointestinal concerns. Therefore, finding ways, to incorporate probiotics, in small amounts, kombucha can have a positive impact on wellness.
kombucha tummyI began hunting for recipes with these ingredients. I tried several and found that I liked the idea of a healthy gummy. I mean, who does not like gummies? They are fun, tasty and are handy delivery vehicles, which are perfect for little doses of kombucha and probiotics. As I started looking around to bring these ingredients together, I came across a gummy recipe by the Cool Vegan. I used this recipe as a base, did some experimenting, and produced something I really like. It almost tastes like a champagne gummy square and makes my stomach happy. P.S. and yes, that is a Darth Vader bottle opener in the picture. Its the only one i could find in my house, thanks bro for the stocking gift 😉

Select a kombucha product that has less sugar (check labels). Pick the flavor combination you like and select your thickener. You can use a gelatin or Agar powder. It is a sea vegetable gelatin and is vegan friendly. Don’t worry–it does not make your gummies taste like fish. Unlike traditional gelatin, agar must heated. The heat plus the natural sugars in the maple syrup make the good bacteria in the probiotics very happy—they like heat and sugar.

Vegan Kombucha Probiotic Gummies

These are a fun and easy way to get probiotics and a small amount of kombucha in! Depending on the flavour of kombucha you buy, they often taste like little champagne gummy treats!
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 7 minutes
Servings 12 pieces depending on your mold

Ingredients

  • 2 cups kombucha of choice
  • 5 tbsp Agar Powder (you could use good quality gelatin for a non-vegan version)
  • 2 probiotic capsules
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  • Mix one cup of kombucha and the agar powder in a bowl.
  • Pour into a pot and turn the burner onto low and stir well until it dissolves, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the maple syrup, open your probiotics capsules, and pour the contents into the pot. Mix well on low heat for another 1-2 minutes. Do NOT boil the kombucha and probiotics, keep it on low heat to not destroy the good stuff.
  • Remove the pan from the heat. Add the other cup of kombucha and stir well until there are no lumps at all.
  • Select a mold, or line a shallow pan with parchment so you can lift them out and cut them into cubes after. Pour the mixture into your mold/pan and place in the fridge to set for 2-3 hours.
  • Once they are set, pop them out and store them in a glass, airtight container for 2 weeks.
