Hormonal Havoc to Happy Hormones

If you have been following me for a few years you most likely know my personal story and struggle with ill health and anxiety that eventually lead me to open Rejoice.  In 2019, I was honored to have my personal health story featured in a best-selling book, Obstacles Equals Opportunity, and earn the title “best-selling author”. My hope in publishing my journey is that it would resonate with other women and give them hope that we can take control of our health and Rejoice in the most vibrant body possible. The emails and messages I received from women around the globe after the published book hit the shelves saying “my story was exactly their story” was proof that we must take our health and well-being into our own hands.

After being diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and a bleeding Ulcer in 2012, I was offered medication to address those symptoms but it did not address the root cause of my anxiety and Ulcer. Later after working with a Naturopath I learned that my anxiety was simply a symptom of imbalanced hormones and adrenal fatigue. My adrenals were burnt out from the chronic stress of working 80-hour work weeks for 4-years straight, while having 2 young children under the age of 5, in addition to being the emergency on-call person for those with dual diagnosis and their families 24 hours a day 7-days a week. The chronic stress disrupted my gut health, blood sugar balance, and did a number on my hormones. Learning how to rebalance my hormones and support my adrenals took time but the end results were I no longer suffered from the issues I was experiencing that the doctor wanted to give me medication for.
After running Rejoice for the past 4-years, about 90% of the women  I work with come to me for weight-loss but also suffer from some form of hormonal issues. Issues such as Estrogen Dominance, Adrenal fatigue, Endometriosis, PCOS, PMS, Adrenal Fatigue, Thyroid Issues, and more. Their frustration is that they are “doing everything right”, food, nutrition, stress management, etc but they are not seeing the number of the scale change. These women also struggle with anxiety and depression, fatigue, sleep, and mood concerns. Basically, they feel stressed out all the time, unhappy, and frustrated that their healthy habits don’t make the impact fast enough to motivate them to continue. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that they want to get off! they just want to lose weight, feel strong in their body and mind, and live younger longer.
The good news there are tangible things that you can do to support your Endocrine System (aka our hormones). As a result of COVID-19 and self-isolation, I have had more and more clients say their anxiety and stress response is through the roof and they are not managing well. As a result, I ran a FREE, Anxiety Toolbox 7-day workshop in the Rejoice Facebook Community Hub Group with meal plans, tools, and videos to get a handle on our anxiety.
However, I know from both my professional and personal experience that to address stress and anxiety we need to look more closely at our hormones! Therefore, over the next month, I am running the Healthy, Happy Hormone, 4-Part Series. Over the next four Sundays, a new blog post will come out discussing the hormone topic of the week. Additionally, you will want to follow along on my social media channels (let’s be BFF’s on Facebook & Instagram) for the daily recipes and resources that align with that week’s topic.

Part One/ Week One:  Hormone Basics 101

When I coach clients who are focused on hormonal health they are always amazed to learn how many of their body systems are impacted by their hormones. Additionally, how much of their illness or health is impacted by their hormones. Hormones have a critical role to play in our overall health, wellness, and longevity. Week One we are going to dive into Hormone Basics 101 so you can increase your hormone knowledge and resources to help you make sustainable changes long-term.

Part Two/ Week Two: Stress, Adrenals, & Sex Hormones

We often underestimate the impact stress has on our hormones, mood, sleep, energy level, and libido. As someone who has struggled with adrenal fatigue, I am very familiar with how much time and the work it takes to rebalance and support your adrenals, nervous system, and stress-response in the body. Week Two is all about tangible tools and resources you can use every day to support your Endocrine system which will make you feel amazing!

3) Part Three: PCOS, Endometriosis, & Estrogen Dominance.

How I use food, movement, and self-care to support clients that suffer from PCOS, Endometriosis, & Estrogen Dominance. Up to 10 percent of women of childbearing age experience polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and/or endometriosis. These issues are incredibly common, however standard treatment options are extremely limited and not widely discussed by many General Practitioners. In week 3, I will be sharing some strategies I use to help my clients transform their hormonal health using a food-first approach, the right movement recommendations, and self-care strategies.

Part 4: Hormonal Impacts on Weight, Hair Loss, Skin Health, & Pre-Mature Aging.

Whew! That’s a lot to cover in one week! I feel like I could do a whole month on each of this week’s topics. I will only be scratching the surface on these topics in this series. When I work 1:1 with my coaching clients we can spend 3-6 months just working on one of those areas. I wanted to include as much information I can in our final week together in these three areas because I know how emotional these issues are. Thyroid and Estrogen Dominance can impact hair loss in areas we don’t want and hair growth in areas for women we don’t want. This is emotional and in coaching women, I have heard first hand how this impacts their desire to go out and socialize, decreases confidence, and dramatically impacts their quality of life. This week I will give you as much as I can lovelies and if you want to work closely with me always feel free to schedule a FREE, 15-Minute phone consultation to chat if nutritional counseling is right for you.

I can’t wait to dive into this 4-part series with you on Hormonal Health! Check your email each Sunday for Blog Post and follow along on Rejoice Facebook & Instagram pages for simple and effective resources that relate to the week’s topic.
